2012年共和黨的總統參選人羅姆尼的總統夢最後以失敗告終。選舉日當天凌晨1點羅姆尼確認當選無望之後發表了一篇簡短而又延續傳統風度的演說。記得2008年有位網友用文言文翻譯了奧巴馬近半個小時的演說， 讓很多人重新認識到古文的魅力。以我本人的文言造詣如果要翻奧巴馬今次勝選演說恐怕要翻到明年。由於文學修養有限， 以下的譯文以淺顯易懂， 保持原意為宗旨。
I have just called President Obama to congratulate him on his victory. His supporters and his campaign also deserve congratulations.
余方才致電總統奧巴馬賀其勝， 其隨者及其競選之師亦應得賀。
I wish all of them well, but particularly the president, the first lady and their daughters.
吾望其皆安，吾尤望總統妻女皆安。
This is a time of greatchallenges for America, and I pray that the president will be successful inguiding our nation.

I want to thank Paul Ryan forall that he has done for our campaign andfor our country. Besides my wife, Ann, Paul is the best choice I've ever made. And I trust that his intellect and his hard work and his commitment to principle will continue to contribute to the good of our nation.
吾亦當謝保羅君傾其所力於吾等競選之師，於吾邦。吾妻之外， 舍君其誰？其之慧， 其之勤， 其之念俱將繼益吾邦。
I also want to thank Ann, thelove of my life. She would have been a wonderful first lady. She's -- she has been that and more to me and to our family and to the many people that she has touched with her compassion and her care .

I thank my sons for theirtireless work on behalf of the campaign, and thank their wives and children fortaking up the slack as their husbands and dads have spent so many weeks awayfrom home.

I want to thank Matt Rhoades and the dedicated campaign team he led. They have made an extraordinary effort not just for me, but also for the country that we love.

The nation, as you know, is at a critical point. At a time like this, we can't risk partisan bickering and political posturing. Our leaders have to reach across the aisle to do the people's work.
諸君皆知， 吾國大患當前愈不得以黨同伐異之行而危之，謀國事者愈當盡棄前嫌請命為民。
And we citizens also have to rise to the occasion. We look to our teachers and professors; we count on you not just to teach, but to inspire our children with a passion for learning and discovery
然吾等公民亦不能等閒。吾等賴我國師者傳道授業且勵我童叟以鑿壁借光之志而學之。
We look to our pastors and priests and rabbis and counselors of all kinds to testify of the enduring principles upon which our society is built: honesty, charity, integrity and family.

We look to our parents, forin the final analysis everything depends on the success of our homes
吾等仰高堂以諄醒世之言， 是因世事皆仰家道之和。
We look to job creators ofall kinds. We're counting on you to invest, to hire, to step forward. And we look to Democrats and Republicans in government at all levels to put the people before the politics.

I believe in America. I believe in the people of America.
吾信吾邦，吾信吾民。
And I ran for office becauseI'm concerned about America. This election is over, but our principles endure. I believe that the principles upon which this nation was founded are the only sure guide to a resurgent economy and to renewed greatness.
吾有參選之志是因憂國之心。此番選舉已畢，然我等定持念以恆， 餘以為，唯恪守立國之本，方能更生經濟復興吾邦.
Like so many of you, Paul and I have left everything on the field. We have given our all to this campaign. Iso wish -- I so wish that I had been able to fulfill your hopes to lead the country in a different direction, but the nation chose another leader. And so Ann and I join with you to earnestly pray for him and for this great nation.
誠如諸君， 保羅兄同敝人已竭盡全力於此番競選。吾何其望吾能償汝等之願以領國家於殊途， 然天下人已然擇他者， 故安氏與敝人願偕諸君以赤子之心祈天降福於總統君， 祈天降福於吾邦。
